Update for Monday, 13 September

Kia Ora koutou and welcome to Week 8 of Term 3.

Nau Mai Haere Mai ki Te Wiki o te Reo Māori

This week is te wiki o te reo māori where we get to celebrate Māori language week.

To celebrate (and make lockdown a bit more fun), all week we are running a school wero (challenge).  There are 10 different challenges with everything from a tiktok challenge, colouring competition, poster design, and 3d design with Tinkercad.

Tomorrow, on Tuesday at midday (12pm), it is the National Māori moment.  The aim is to try and get 1 million people in Aotearoa participating in the Māori language minute where we can help set the world record for people speaking and celebrating an endangered, indigenous language at the same time.  At this time, we will be running a Kahoot and everyone is welcome.  Of course there are points for joining the kahoot as well.

There will prizes for the top students, top class and of course house points to find the top house. Points are for entering and some wero have extra points for 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

To find out about the competition and to join in, students are to go to the link found in the Daily Student Notices.

There are leaderboards so you can see which house is winning, which class is winning and the top 10 students. There will also be entries from some of your kaiako (teachers) so look out for those. If you have any questions, please ask your kaiako.

Later today, the Prime Minister will be updating the nation on our current Alert Levels.

We will await this announcement and provide further information with you in regards to schooling in the coming days and weeks, once this is confirmed with us.

Behind the scenes we are preparing for either eventuality and we will be well prepared should we be dropping alert levels later this week, or further down the track.

Ata mārie,

Kristen Walsham
Principal – Tumuaki

Stay well, stay safe and be kind.
