MRI End of Year Organisation

IMPORTANT: End of year Organisation, please read carefully:

Kia ora koutou

December is always a busy month with end of year events, but due to the current situation and restrictions that are in place, we are required to ‘reinvent’ how we normally do things.

As a school we want to celebrate our amazing students, but we must work within the strict guidelines on how we can run events to ensure that we continue to help keep everyone safe.

We also need to organise the return of loaned school devices and the collection of students’ belongings, so please read below for details on how we are going to manage things this year.

Please note these days in your Diary – Wednesday 8th , Thursday 9th and Friday 10th December.  Over these 3 days we will be requesting ALL loaned chromebook devices to be returned back to the school. There will also be an End of Year Pack for ALL our students to collect.

A large number of our school chromebook devices have been loaned out to our students to support their distance learning from home this year. We now need these returned.

We are organising a return process that will take place across 3 days – on Wednesday 8th December to Friday 10th December.

If you are not able to return your device on any of these 3 days, you must ensure you bring it into the school office BEFORE Friday 10th December.

Please ensure you return the Chromebook, it’s Charger, and it’s Carrier Bag if you were provided with one.   Please advise if there are any breakages or issues with the device so we can get these fixed over the summer break.

To support your child’s learning for the final school days of this year without a device, we can provide you with a Learning Booklet for your child.

Each and every one of our Students will have an End of Year pack to collect. This will include your child’s end of year school report and this year’s school magazine.  For some students it will also include their class photo if you have ordered one, certificates and other items.

Please use this opportunity when returning your device and collecting your end of year pack to also return any library books that you may still have.
If you wish to return your library books earlier than the dates above, please bring them to the school office.

The following events have changed considerably compared to previous years so that we can still recognise achievements while working under the current COVID-19 Health and Safety restrictions. It is important to us that we acknowledge these students the best we can.

Measures we are taking include:

  • Ceremonies will take place outside
  • Physically distanced seating with limited numbers.  This means that only identified students can attend
  • Mask wearing
  • Non-contact collection of certificate
  • No singing or haka pōwhiri

Awards Ceremony – Friday 3rd December.  This will be separated into a Year 7 and Year 8 Ceremony:
Our highlight of the year is when we celebrate and recognise our many amazing students and their achievements at our end of year Awards Ceremony.  This year we have to run this event a lot differently from how we would normally do it.

This year our Awards Assembly will take place on Friday 3rd December.

Award recipients only will be able to attend the ceremony. Unfortunately family members will not be able to attend.  Email invitations with all the details on where and when, will be going out to award recipient students early next week.

We will be filming this ceremony and will share this footage with their families and the Mt Roskill Intermediate School community.

Māori Graduation – Friday 3rd December
We will be holding our Māori graduation on Friday 3rd December.  This will only be for our Year 8 Kapa Haka students.  Unfortunately family members will not be able to attend.  We will be filming this and will provide this footage to the students and their families.  Further information will be provided to those students who will be involved.

Year 8 Students graduation
Our Year 8 students have been greatly affected over the past 2 years with many disruptions due to COVID-19.  We are incredibly proud of how they have all coped with the many challenges and changes these times have thrown at us.

We will not be able to hold our usual Graduation ceremony or Celebration event that we normally do, but instead, over Monday 13th and Tuesday 14th December, we will be organising some special activities, while maintaining public health and safety measures to celebrate and acknowledge them before they leave MRI.

Last day of school for the year is Wednesday 15th December.

Thank you for your support.

Stay well, stay safe and be kind.
