MRI Update – Friday 11 March

Kia ora koutou,

Today, we were very fortunate to have some of New Zealand’s top football players attend a training session at our school.

This was organised by Auckland City Football Club, together with Sport Auckland, as a part of their Football in Communities initiative.

Top NZ footballers, Kris Bright, Rosie White and Ivan Vicelich attended and gave close to 90 of our students some fantastic tips, tricks and skills to improve their football game.

We also learnt that our current student teacher – Alyssa Golding, who is currently doing her teaching placement training in Room 19 is also a top NZ footballer.  So it wasn’t long before we got her out of the classroom and onto the fields to show us her skills as well!

It was an incredible opportunity for our students to take part in.  The students were buzzing with excitement from the experience.

Media were there to capture this and we’ve been told that the school will be shared with their official footage and photos, including interviews taken with some of our students, in the coming days.  We will share this with you when it arrives.

Two girls were also very lucky to take home a brand new pair of football boots that Rosie White donated and had signed.

Here are a few photos of this morning’s events, taken by some of our staff.

Omicron continues to make its impact in all our lives and we can only hope that the modellers are right and that Tāmaki Makaurau will peak within the next 10 days.

Please continue to let us know as soon as you can if your child will be staying home, whether it’s because they are unwell, are COVID-19 positive or are required to self isolate due to being a Household Contact. When we receive information of your child being COVID-19 positive or is a Household Contact, you will be sent a letter from us, outlining the isolation guidelines, offering school work to be sent to your child and also our requirements on when your child will be able to return back to school.

As you would have seen in the media, from 11:59pm tonight, the required period of isolation for positive cases of COVID-19 and their household contacts is being reduced from 10 days to seven days.  We are now working to these guidelines.

We are continuing to communicate directly with the families of classrooms affected when COVID positive cases are being reported and it appears that these cases had been onsite during their infectious period.

As always, please be vigilant with actively monitoring your child for symptoms and if they are showing any signs of illness, please keep them at home, inform the school of their absence and get them tested.

Have a safe and enjoyable weekend everyone and we look forward to seeing you next week.

Ngā mihi nui
