Welcome to Term 3!
It’s great to see everyone back and ready to go for what looks to be a busy term ahead.
As follow up to the communication we sent out at the end of last week, I would like to reiterate, based on the advice we have been provided by the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Health, we are recommending mask use by all our students and staff while indoors, for at least the next four weeks. While mask use helps to minimise the risk of COVID transmission, it also helps keep other illnesses at bay. There are a lot of colds and flus at this time of the year and particularly so this year. If your child is unwell, please keep them away from school and ensure you advise us of their absence.
This September, we will be holding our Triennial school board election.
I would like to acknowledge two of our long standing board members who will be stepping down from the board this year. James Bruce has been on our board for over two decades, becoming a board member in 2001.
And our long standing Board Chair, Mr Roger Deverell will also be stepping down after 15 years on our school Board. Roger Deverell first joined the MRI School Board as Treasurer in 2007 when his children attended our school. He became Board Chair in 2010 and for all these years Roger has played a very active role in our school, embodying our school values.
Both of these wonderful Board members have always had the students at the heart of any decision making, reflecting the vision of Whakapuāwai, to Thrive. We greatly appreciate their service to Mt Roskill Intermediate.
While a number of our current Board will be seeking your continued support for re-election, we will also need new people to join the Board.
Below you will find a notice requesting nominations for this year’s board elections. We will be looking to elect five parent representatives. Over the holidays you should have received an email for a Call for Nominations. If you or someone you know are interested and think you have what it takes to make a positive contribution to the governance of MRI, please consider submitting your nomination. Please ensure your nomination is received by 3 August 2022.
On Monday, we held our End of Term assembly that had been postponed from last term. It always gives me great pleasure to formally recognise our students who go above and beyond, and who achieve so well and contribute to MRI in their different ways. Our Term 2 award recipients are listed below.
Further to Deputy Principal Mr Ross Berry retiring from education later this term, Mr Carl Maskell has been appointed to the role of Acting Deputy Principal for the remainder of this year while the Board makes the permanent appointment to this role.
Mr Maskell will be commencing the role, initially working alongside Mr Berry to help transition, from Wednesday 3rd August 2022
The school is committed to ensuring that we have quality teachers for all of our students. We have appointed Mrs Ritu Aggarwal to take over the role of Room 22 teacher. Mrs Aggarwal is very excited to join MRI and is looking forward to starting next week.
Organisation is well underway for Mr Berry’s farewell. If you would like to share a special tribute for Mr Berry or you would like to join us at his farewell function, please contact our Executive Officer, Kylie Darby-Smith kdarbysmith@mri.school.nz
Don’t forget that our Art Week Exhibition is on TOMORROW – Thursday 28th July, 4pm to 7.30pm. Our hall is looking amazing with the many art works displayed that were created by our talented students. Work created with local Artist Kirstin Carlin throughout term two, as part of the Creatives in Schools’ programme, will also be on display. We hope to see you there!
Exhibition Invitation is below.
