Message from the Deputy Principal

Kia Ora Koutou,

This week our Year Eight students have been enjoying our Camp and EOTC (education outside the classroom) programme over Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.  We were lucky with the fine weather over these days as prior to and since then, we have had some quite heavy rain! All our Year Eights have experienced many different and exciting new activities.  It was wonderful to see their enthusiasm and willingness to try new things, their support of one another in these activities, and to see them proud and excited of their achievements afterwards.  We are incredibly appreciative of the parent helpers who joined us at either camp or on the EOTC days.  Without your help and support we wouldn’t be able to put on these activities for our students.  We have a number of photos below which show some of the fun and activities that our students have taken part in.

Today is a teacher only day, which is provided by the Ministry to allow our teachers time for planning, preparation and today, report writing is a key focus for our teachers, in preparation for your child’s end of year report.

Our Culture group is currently practising hard to put on a performance for you.  This performance will be on Tuesday 29th November at 3.30pm in our school hall.  We would love to see you there.

Planning for our End of Year Awards Assembly is well underway.  This will be taking place on Monday 12th December at 11am.  Families of certificate or award winners will be notified by the end of next week, to allow you to make plans to attend, if you wish.

Yesterday our students would have brought home a Photolife form with ordering details for their class and individual photos.  Please keep an eye out for this and get your orders in by the cut off date.

Enjoy your weekend.

Ngā mihi nui,

Nicky Fleming
Deputy Principal

Highlights & Celebrations

Year 8 Camp and EOTC days

150 Year Eight Students headed off first thing on Monday morning to Motu Moana Camp in Green Bay, Auckland, for three days and two nights of action packed fun.
The days were filled with activites ranging from Abseiling, Rock climbing, Mountain Biking, Confidence Course, Camp Cooking, Archery, Water slide and Team Building.  The evenings were filled with more activites and games right through to bed time. By the end of Wednesday when we returned back to school there were 150 happy but very tired students.

The benefit of Camp and EOTC cannot be underestimated as activities require teamwork, co-operation, initiative and problem solving. Thank you to Mr Davies for all your hard work in organizing this fantastic week for our students, and a massive thanks to Teachers and Parent Helpers who ensured a smooth running week.   The Students will hold these memories with them for a lifetime.

For the Year Eight students who didn’t attend the overnight Camp, they enjoyed three days of EOTC (education outside the classroom) activities.  These were held at Ambury Farm, Judges Bay and at school.  The many activities these students experienced were kayaking, mountain biking, coastal challenge, camp cooking, rock wall climbing, team building, archery and chariot building.

Campus Māori Graduation
On 1st November, we celebrated our Year 8 Māori and roopu at our Campus Māori Graduation. Ko tēnei he poroporoaki ki ngā akonga kua tutuki I te taumata tuawaru!
We are proud of all our students, past and present, who were acknowledged and involved in this special evening.
We look forward to welcoming the incoming year seven students from MRPS into Ahuru Mōwai and our school whānau next year.
It was special to see all of the past MRI students graduating from MRGS. It has been a privilege to have been a part of their educational journey.

Ehara taku toa, he toa taki tini
My success should not be bestowed onto me alone, as it was not individual success but success of a collective.

Year Seven Speech Finalists
Congratulations to all our Year Seven Speech Finalists. It was wonderful to see such strong written structure as well as effective delivery being demonstrated at our finals which were held on November 3rd.

Special congratulations to Riya, Isaac and Huda who placed first and second equal respectively.  Well done!

Central Zone Touch Competition

Last week MRI had two teams go to the central zone touch competition, a boys and a girls team.
Both teams performed strongly on the day, with the boys finishing 4th. The girls also had a fantastic day and only lost one game.  Perplexingly this saw them play off for 5/6th and ultimately came 5th in the competition. The teams would like to thank Mr Eveni, Mr Matthews, Cole Hughes and Matua Ormsby for their coaching and assistance.
